  • Thanks to Denise Nolan and her large band of elves for a fabulous sixth annual meeting and club holiday party on Saturday, December 2, 2006.  The best ever!!

  • Check out the August 2005 edition of Runners World magazine for quotes from Coach Carroll and Mike Ullman on Group Running.  Or click here to read the article online.

  • Special congratulations to Irene McLaughlin who completed the Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon on 7/24/05 in a time of 12:48:40, finishing in the top half of her age group, AND Jack Devine who completed the Laugavegurinn (Iceland) Ultra Marathon on 7/16/05 in a time of 7:49:19, finishing 97th overall.

  • We're very pleased to welcome Rich Schilder as a new Assistant Coach for our club, working with and assisting Head Coach Jim Carroll.  Rich comes to us with a long history of running, racing and coaching behind him, including many years with the Boston Running Club.  He is currently coaching the Bedford High School track team.  Rich will be running our Wednesday night workouts at the Babson Indoor Track this winter.

  • A new shipment of club t-shirts has recently arrived!  They can be purchased (long-sleeve: $25; short-sleeve: $20) by contacting Kathy Taraschi.

  • In 2006 the Heartbreak Hill Striders will again award a special prize to any member who runs the entire 2005 USATF-New England Grand Prix race series.  Click here for a list of the 2006 Grand Prix races.

  • Another special web-based tool is available as part of our web site.  Our Age Graded Calculator provides you with an age-graded race time and an achievement percentile for a recent performance at a specific race distance.  Age-graded information allows you to:

    • Adjust your performance to what it theoretically would have been during your prime running years (your 20's and a portion of your 30's depending on the race distance).
    • Judge your performance, using an achievement percentile, without bias for gender or the aging process (in other words, you are measured against a specific standard for your age and sex).
    • Compare your performances for a specific race distance at various ages to determine which was your "best race".

  • Get a 10% discount on all purchases at Marathon Sports in Wellesley, Brookline, Boston, and Cambridge.  Just mention that you're a Heartbreak Hill Striders member and ask for one of their discount cards.
