March 20, 2005

General Information:

On Sunday, March 20th the Heartbreak Hill Striders are sponsoring two vans (the infamous Safari and Turtle vans) to the 28th Annual New Bedford Half-Marathon. Transportation is free to all members (we ask only that you have paid your 2005 club dues or have worked out a payment plan with any member of the Board of Directors).

The vans will leave from Rodman Ford in Foxboro at 8:30 am SHARP.  Rodman Ford is on Route 1 South across from Gillette Stadium.  See the directions at the bottom of this page.

The vans will be driven by Larry Keller and Jim Carroll.

Members can drive directly to Foxboro or they can carpool from Wellesley.
The carpool will leave from the Lower Falls municipal parking lot (behind the Sunoco station on Route 16 in Wellesley) at 8:00 am SHARP.

We will have plenty of time in New Bedford for race registration and a warm-up prior to the 11:00 am race start.  The vans will be parked within 2-3 blocks of the start/finish line so all of your belongings will be readily available to you before and after the race.  Shower facilities are also available free of charge at the YMCA a couple of blocks away (bring your own soap and towel!).

The vans will leave New Bedford at approximately 2:30 pm to return to Foxboro.

Special thanks to Larry Keller and Rodman Ford for arranging a special club discount on the famous Safari-Bus and Turtle Top Van, plus a third van (if necessary).

For those of you who've never run New Bedford, it's definitely a New England classic.  Again this year New Bedford is part of the USATF Grand Prix series of races. All of the age groups require a minimum number of entries….so EVERY RUNNER COUNTS!

Directions to Rodman Ford in Foxboro:

From Route 128, take Route 95 South (toward Providence).

Get off at Exit 9 (Foxboro/Wrentham).  As soon as you get off the exit, get in the right lane and go straight. Follow the Route One South sign.

Keep going for about 4-5 miles. Rodman Ford will be on your right, directly across from Gillette Stadium. At the stoplight, turn right into Rodman's lower parking lot. You'll see the Safari Van parked near the street. Park anywhere in the lower lot.
